Elizabeth Rush Introductory Post

I am Elizabeth Rush and I have been an Educational Advisor for Upward Bound Shelton since the grant started in 2017. Prior to that I was the Program Coordinator for the Upward Bound – Clover Park grant for five years. Before working for Upward Bound I spent seven years working for an IRB. If you ever want to talk ethics in medical research, I am your girl.

According to Myers Briggs personality test I am an ENFJ (Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging) which means I am people focused and love helping people! Which makes sense because I am passionate about education. I talk about it all the time, even to strangers. Last time I went clothing shopping the clerk said they were looking to go college and I spent 20 minutes explaining how to get financial aid and who they should talk to in admissions. I also love research and understanding concepts. If you ask me why something is the way it is, I can give you a full break down of the policies that make it up and then thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Many students have told me I am like a mom to them. And it makes sense because I am a mom and I really care about my students’ success. I want you to work hard, set goals, and go after the life you want. It is my deepest hope that each and every student in this program graduates from college, does meaningful work in a career that they are passionate about and that pays them enough to take care of them and their family, has healthy relationships, and lives their best lives. You better believe I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that comes true!

Elizabeth Facts:

I am a Virgo which according to my daughter means I am analytical, intelligent, reserved, critical, helpful, and conscientious.

I earned my Masters in Public Administration from the Evergreen State College in 2017.  I had received my Bachelor’s of Science with a focus in Computer Science and Project Management in 2003, so there was quite a gap between degrees.

In between graduating with my BS and my MPA I got married and had two amazing kids, Madelyn and Nick. I have a great family.

I find my peace in nature. I go camping, hiking and exploring when ever I can and when I can’t leave I work on my garden. I am proud of my cottage garden and raised veggie beds. I am adding fruit trees this year. It feels good to grow your own food. I also love to cook, read, and create paper crafts.
